What inspired you to work in the field of substance abuse treatment?

It started by chance while working in a crisis unit during grad school, I saw that nearly every client had co-occurring substance use issues. That sparked my interest, and I’ve been working with this population since 2016.

What do you find most rewarding about working at Monument?

The most rewarding part of my work is supporting clients as they discover their strength and potential. I'm also grateful to work alongside a team that shares this mission, as shown in their daily commitment to client care.

How do you motivate yourself and stay positive in challenging situations?

I reflect on my own past and the path that brought me here, despite the obstacles. My personal motto is “Endure and Conquer,” and it keeps me grounded and focused when things get tough.

What is a personal value or belief that you bring to your work?

I believe that everyone has the capacity to change and the capacity for good. That belief informs everything I do.

What’s one thing your coworkers might be surprised to learn about you?

I am very introverted. I seem extroverted at work, but that persona helps me do my job and I shed it as soon as I leave work.

What’s the best advice you’ve received in your career, and how has it shaped you?

That clients are on their own journey, and it’s not about me. This perspective has helped me maintain empathy and stay present without becoming overly reactive.

If you could share one piece of advice with someone entering this field, what would it be?

Treat every person as if they have the potential to change and you might be surprised by what they can accomplish.

In three words, how would you describe yourself?

Curious, curious, curious.

Any fun facts or hidden talents you’d like to share?

I play the cello. Not well, but I play.
