How Fentanyl Addiction Happens

What is Fentanyl?

Fentanyl is a powerful opioid derived from the opium poppy plant. It was initially developed for severe pain management for post-surgery patients or for those dealing with advanced-stage cancer. However, in recent years it has flooded the streets for non-medical use, resulting in countless deaths.

What’s worse, drug users who try to avoid fentanyl are still at risk of overdose. Fentanyl is frequently mixed with illegal drugs like heroin, cocaine, and counterfeit prescription pills. Even a trace amount can cause an overdose.

Signs & Symptoms of Fentanyl Addiction

How do you know if you or someone you love is addicted to fentanyl? Common signals include:

  • Physical Symptoms
Mental Confusion, Nausea, Slowed Breathing & Heart Rate
  • Behavioral Changes
Isolating, Neglecting Responsibilities, Changes in Sleep Patterns

If you or someone you love is experiencing any of these symptoms, it could be time to seek professional help. Fentanyl addiction is life-threatening, but recovery is possible with the right treatment plan.

How We Treat Fentanyl Addiction at Monument Recovery

Fentanyl Addiction Treatment in Arizona

Fentanyl users can’t “just stop.” This highly addictive drug changes brain functions, meaning that quitting “cold turkey” is challenging, uncomfortable, and even dangerous. Users who stop consuming fentanyl will experience withdrawal symptoms, such as cravings, muscle pain, insomnia, anxiety, and vomiting. Far too often, they relapse rather than continue through the pain of withdrawal.

Monument Recovery can help you or a loved one find a safe, structured environment for detoxification, with a seamless transition to our recovery program. From there, our comprehensive approach ensures that you or your loved one is supported at every step of the journey: from managing the physical aspects of addiction to addressing the underlying emotional and psychological challenges that fuel substance use.

Residential treatment provides the most supportive, immersive environment to focus on recovery. Clients have 24/7 support from our team of experts, and receive the highest level of clinical care and holistic healing.

In addition, the residential treatment environment separates individuals from the triggers of their normal living environments, giving them a safe, peaceful environment to build a better life.

PHP provides a middle ground between residential treatment and IOP. Here, participants spend most of their day at our facility, receiving intensive therapy, medical care, and support. They return home in the evenings, but have less time out of treatment than IOP clients.

PHP can act as a transition between residential treatment and outpatient care, or as a first step towards recovery. Our individual counseling, group therapy, and holistic treatment services are all available to PHP clients.

People who have completed residential treatment or who cannot commit to a full-time program can find a high level of support and some flexibility in IOP.

Participants in IOP typically attend therapy and counseling sessions multiple times per week while living in a recovery-supportive environment. The reduced schedule of IOP allows clients to experience some autonomy out of treatment hours. The safe container of the treatment community remains, allowing them to experiment with new freedoms and coping strategies in the context of that safety net.

Everyone’s journey through addiction and recovery is unique. That’s why we offer a range of personalized fentanyl addiction treatment options to fit each individual’s needs. From the structured environment of a residential program to the flexibility of outpatient care, we have a solution designed to help every client we encounter to succeed.
