What inspired you to work in the field of substance abuse treatment?

A big component of my recovery has been being of service to others dealing with the same struggles as I have gone through. Giving back to the program that has given me my life back inspired me to do the same for others.

What do you find most rewarding about working at Monument?

Working with people that genuinely care about helping people in their darkest times and also seeing people light back up with life as they go farther in our program.

How do you motivate yourself and stay positive in challenging situations?

By remembering that there is a bigger plan out there working itself out, grander than I could ever comprehend, knowing that all I can control is doing the next right action and everything will come to be, right on time.

What is a personal value or belief that you bring to your work?

Levity and humor would be the two values I bring to work. Even though we deal with serious situations and ailments, bringing a sense of lightness to any situation is important.

What’s one thing your coworkers might be surprised to learn about you?

That I am a huge nerd! I love collectible cards and gaming.

What’s the best advice you’ve received in your career, and how has it shaped you?

The day this work stops being enjoyable, is the day your doing something wrong.

If you could share one piece of advice with someone entering this field, what would it be?

Leave the expectations at the door. The less expectations you have the less you will be disappointed. Remember we are dealing with people at their lowest and at our lowest there was a hand that reached out to help us. Be that hand.

In three words, how would you describe yourself?

Funny. Smart. Loving

Any fun facts or hidden talents you’d like to share?

I am an avid basketball player and have been all of my life. It's my therapy and first love all in one.
