Mood disorders are a category of mental health conditions that cause disruptions to the way a person experiences emotions. These disorders are characterized by symptoms of depression, mania, or a combination of mood swings that go beyond the normal ups and downs of life. Mood disorders often impact your ability to work, connect with others, or enjoy the activities you once found pleasurable.
Mood disorders can affect anyone, and while mood changes are part of life, these types of disorders are marked by a persistent experience of depression, mania, or a mix of both. These symptoms continue for weeks, months, or longer and usually need treatment to recover.
Monument Recovery is proud to accept most major commercial insurance plans to help cover up to 100% of the costs associated with treatment at our programs. To find our your personal options, get a free verification of benefits.

Mood disorders can include:
Commonly known as depression or clinical depression, MDD is characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest in activities, fatigue, and feelings of worthlessness. It can make even simple tasks seem daunting, resulting in both emotional and physical problems.
Bipolar disorder is characterized by extreme mood swings, which range from depressive episodes to manic or hypomanic episodes (periods of elevated energy, impulsivity, or euphoria). The transitions between these phases can be disorienting and disruptive.
Persistent depressive disorder, also known as dysthymia, is a long-term, chronic, low-grade depression. It is typically less severe than major depression, but it can last for years and have a significant effect on your relationships, achievements, and overall well-being.
Cyclothymic disorder is a less severe form of bipolar disorder that causes chronic and long-term mood swings that are less extreme than full-on manic or depressive episodes. However, the smaller ups and downs in this mood disorder can be problematic as well.
Mood disorders can impact not only emotional but also physical well-being. Symptoms may include:
If you’re experiencing symptoms like these, professional support can help you find relief.

Mood disorders don’t just affect how someone feels internally—they can influence every aspect of life, from relationships to work and beyond.
Mood disorders often make maintaining healthy and stable connections with family, friends, or partners challenging. Emotional extremes or prolonged withdrawal may lead to misunderstandings, conflicts, or isolation.
Persistent low energy, difficulty focusing, or episodes of heightened impulsivity can impact performance, leading to missed career or academic opportunities. Tasks that once felt manageable may now feel overwhelming.
For individuals with mood disorders like bipolar disorder or cyclothymia, emotional swings can feel disorienting. One day you may feel motivated and optimistic, only to feel hopeless and drained the next.
Mood disorders can trap individuals in cycles of guilt or shame—feeling like they “should” be able to control their emotions or blaming themselves for something outside their control.

Monument Recovery truly saved my life. When I came in, I was struggling and didn’t know if recovery was possible for me. From day one, the staff and therapists treated me with compassion, respect, and genuine care. What sets Monument apart is that they don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. They take the time to get to know each person as an individual and create a treatment plan that fits their specific needs. Their therapists are incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and passionate about what they do. They helped me understand myself, work through difficult challenges, and build a foundation for lasting recovery. The entire team genuinely cares about their patients and goes above and beyond to support them every step of the way. I never felt like just another client—I felt seen, heard, and valued. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for Monument Recovery, I wouldn’t be here today. I am forever grateful for the hope, healing, and second chance they gave me. If you or a loved one is struggling, I highly recommend Monument Recovery. They change lives.

I am so thankful for everything this treatment center has done for me. I came to Monument at one of the lowest points of my life unsure if sobriety was even possible. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with genuine compassion, respect, and understanding. The staff and clinical team here truly care, and not just about sobriety, but about you as a whole person. Monument went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe, supported, and heard. The program helped me understand myself and addiction in ways I never had before and I was given tools that I continue to use in my recovery today. It also allowed me to build peer connections that I still hold near and dear to my heart. This place didn’t just help me get sober, it helped me rebuild my life and believe in myself again. I will always be grateful for the impact Monument has had on my journey, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is struggling and ready for change.

If you’re hurting and don’t know where to turn, Monument is the place where healing finally starts to feel possible. I can honestly say Monument is one of the most equipped, compassionate, and genuine programs I’ve ever been part of. It isn’t just a facility… it’s a family who truly cares about helping individuals change their lives and regain freedom. Leadership shows up every day with integrity, empathy, and a sincere commitment to be of service. Every department works together to support each client’s healing. Admissions meets clients and families with compassion and zero judgment. The clinical team helps clients process trauma, learn powerful coping skills, and rebuild confidence and purpose. The operations team provides safety, stability, and consistent day-to-day support. Together, they create an environment where real healing can happen. During my time at Monument, I watched countless individuals transform their lives and rebuild relationships they thought were lost forever. Clients aren’t just a number… they are seen, heard, valued, and supported. Staff is educated and informed about substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorders, and they know how to guide clients through real, lasting change. One thing that always stood out to me was how many clients were so positively impacted that they chose to return as staff. That alone says a lot. Monument doesn’t just help people heal… it helps them grow into leaders, mentors, and individuals who believe in their future again. With nothing but love, thank you to the team at Monument for everything. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I had to learn, grow, and be part of something so meaningful.

At Monument Recovery, we want to be wherever you are on your journey to recovery, which is why we offer a range of treatment programs to suit your individual needs and lifestyle. Whether you are looking for an immersive, intensive approach or a more flexible option, we have a program that will work for you.
Our Inpatient Program is the most intensive level of care in a highly structured 24/7 environment. It is best suited to people with more acute symptoms or who desire an environment entirely dedicated to the recovery process. Inpatient care features 24/7 support from caring professionals, an evidence-based approach to treatment and skills development, and an opportunity to rest and process in a safe, trigger-free environment.
The Partial Hospitalization Program is an intensive, structured therapy program offered during daytime hours. PHP is ideal for those who need a higher level of care but wish to return home in the evenings to practice their coping skills in their home environment. Therapy, group work, and skills training are integral to the program and are focused on sustainable growth and stability.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program is ideal for those who require effective treatment while balancing recovery with work, school, or family responsibilities. IOP provides you with a schedule of therapy and group support during part-time hours. This is a great step-down program for those who are coming from PHP or inpatient care. It's also a good choice for those with moderate symptoms that can be treated at a lower intensity.
To make recovery even more accessible, Monument Recovery offers a Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (Virtual IOP). This option provides structured therapy and support remotely, allowing individuals to participate in recovery programming from the comfort of their home. Virtual IOP is perfect for those who live far from our treatment center, have transportation limitations, or need extra scheduling flexibility to fit recovery into their busy lives.
The Outpatient Program is ideal for those who have completed a more intensive program or who need a less intensive level of care. The Outpatient Program provides continued therapy and support to maintain progress, build on the new skills you have acquired, and avert relapse. It offers the flexibility to get the care you need without disrupting your day-to-day life.
At Monument Recovery, we are ready to support you no matter your situation. We can provide the level of care that is right for you. Call us today to speak to someone about our treatment programs and begin your journey to a life of recovery.
Therapy is often a key component of treatment for mood disorders. It can help you better understand your symptoms, manage them more effectively, and lessen their effects.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
CBT can help you identify negative thought patterns that can exacerbate symptoms of mood disorders and replace them with healthier, more positive ways of thinking.
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
DBT can help you manage emotions more effectively if you’re having trouble with emotional regulation. This therapy can help you learn how to approach difficult situations with a more balanced outlook through mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
Medication Management
Medication can be a crucial part of treatment for mood disorders for many people. We will work with you to help you determine the right medication or medications and how they can fit into your overall treatment plan.
Lifestyle and Wellness Integration
We believe in the importance of integrating wellness practices, like mindfulness, exercise, and healthy routines, to help you maintain emotional balance and function well in your daily life.
